Squirrel Tomato Buffet - Week 15: Urban Gardening Vlog Season 9
As we come into the end of summer, we say goodbye to our zucchini which has been ravaged by squash bugs and then vine borers. We're getting tons of beautiful heirloom tomatoes, but the squirrels keep helping themselves! We also think about using some of the extra garden space to plant more herbs and fall crops.
After eight years attempting to grow fruits, vegetables and herbs in containers on our balcony and in a community garden in the city, we now have a backyard with four garden beds to grow in! Each week we update with what's new, good or bad, in our urban garden.
What we're growing this year:

How to Kill Squash Bugs & Remove their Eggs - Squash Bug Infestation on Zucchini - Urban Gardening
Переглядів 12 тис.4 роки тому
A common pest seen on squash plants in the summer is the aptly named squash bug. Similar in appearance to stink bugs, these brown and gray insects make their home on squash plants and are especially fond of summer squashes (zucchinis, yellow squash, crookneck squash), though you can also see them on pumpkins, cucumbers, melons, and other squashes. In this video we cover how to identify and remo...
How We Installed Wood Chips Around Our Raised Garden Beds - No More Weeds! Urban Gardening

You can easily use wood chips directly on the ground or place cardboard underneath to suppress weeds. Supplies: St...

My cilantro is a tiny bush. Like maybe 5 inches tall and not very bushy, is it normal for it to already start flowering? I did plant a little late this year

Yes thank you! I'm not experienced much with gardening. So there has be a lot of research + trial and error. I just got a dill seedlings like 3 weeks ago. It didn’t have the flower bit on it when i got it. And when i seen the flowering start at the top. I was a little confused and unsure what to do. I didn’t want to mess up the plant to where it didn't grow for next year. But from my research, the only video's or info i found were a bit confusing on when and how to cut the flower bit off. So that you still get to use the dill for the rest of its season and it will still grow back to come back for next season. Ya'lls video is like one of the most understandable ones with a close up of it as well. Ya'll also helped up my pruning game as well! So thank you thank you thank you 💚😊

No offends but is this a parodi of some kind? The knife didn't go trough either times 😂 It went a bit further the second time so you could se markings from underneath. And why pull the knife towards your thumb 10 seconds after telling people to be careful 🫣 Thats a retake ❤️

You should hold it with a pair of pliers. Or screw it nice and tight back onto the bottle and hold the bottle. To keep from cutting yourself.

I do not understand. Other channels say to thin the seeds 12-18 inches apart, and others don't seem to thin the seeds at all. I do not know if i should thin my dill seedlings.

Does not work. It will burn the leaves and kill your plants. There's an organic material available at Lowe's that worked great to kill the bugs.

The house I grew up in has the biggest tree of heaven I've ever laid eyes on, only recently did my mom mention she wants to remove it because it shades so much of the stuff she's trying to grow. Coincidentally I also discovered it's highly invasive and a pain to remove because of the suckers.

A big tip when cutting the X in the bottle top. To avoid cutting your thumb, hold the cap from above while creating a bridge with your hand, then cut down into the cap. You might also be able to add a bit more downward pressure using the arch of your hand. Holding the cap as shown can be dangerous. If the cap slips or the blade goes over the edge of the cap, the side of your thumb is exposed and in line with the cutting edge of the blade.
